Rock Climbing

Climbing is the activity of using one's hands or feet to ascend a steep object.
Climbing may be divided due to criterion of place:
- rock climbing - ascending rock formations (limestone, gritstone, granite), often using climbing shoes and a chalk bag.
- mountain climbing - ascending mountains for sport or recreation. It often involves rock and/or ice climbing. (Mountaineering).
- ice climbing - ascending ice or hard snow formations using special equipment designed for the purpose, usually ice axes and crampons.
- mixt climbing – combination of rock and ice climbing.
- bouldering - ascending boulders or small outcrops, often with climbing shoes and a chalk bag. Instead of using a safety rope from above, injury is avoided using a crash pad.
For minimal risk of death or injury climbers use climbing equipment. Main climbing equipment are rope, harness and set of quickdraws. For bouldering the crash pad (kind of mattress) is needed.
Climbing is a sport for almost everyone, becasue of possibility to pick a harness of route to your capabilities. Since Jan 1 2006 there is no special training certificate needed to climb im Poland.
In Poland we use polish climbing grades so called krakow grades. You can easily "translate" our grades to your's using table on this site.
